When people think of community service, they always think that it's boring or hard work. Some even think it's a waste of time because you are doing work and are not getting paid. I started doing a lot of volunteer work on my last year of high school until college. For me, volunteer work is an act of service that makes you think beyond yourself. You feel enriched in ways that you cannot explain because it is in ways that are not material. The fact that you can think of others more than yourself already entitles you to a certain joy other people who haven't felt yet, feel. The only way you can actually enjoy this is when you feel blessed about what God has given you and when you are very appreciative of everything you have. You also realize that you're not such a bad person after all and you see the beauty of your heart. Some people like doing this after they found God. Some people like doing this after being through a lot in their lives because they feel the need to share their success of going through such a thing with others who are going through the same thing or similar.
In the end, volunteer work is about genuinely caring about others and seeing away from yourself.
